        FACADES:

Earnest + Outrageous in Grand Rapids, MI

The architect's agency as a designer can be used to create situations which can allow the agency of the inhabitants to come into the foreground.

This is especially true in urban environments, where the everyday is situated on the sidewalk. Extending the program of the institution onto the sidewalk both publicizes and challenges the terms of ownership and occupancy of urban space across socioeconomic barriers.

The façade is the interstitial space which defines the dichotomy, interfacing between the Private of the building and the Public of the street.

Architects and Designers need to meet the  people where and how they are. And in Grand Rapids, there are a growing number of people who are in and around the street.

Currently, the interactions people have with building exteriors for shelter, work, and play are wasted opportunities for architecture to help make peoples lives a bit better through their intentional incorporation into the design.

This website is meant to help bridge the theoretical designs, and the process by which they're made, with the people they are meant to help.
